An interesting article came out in SFGate this week announcing that San Francisco will be on the the first districts to pilot the new national math standards.
“with the 21st century job market increasingly requiring proficiency in math – and the critical thinking skills that come with it – the country can’t afford that many math haters.”
“Homework is expected to look different too. The old “Do problems 1-30, even” will be tossed out the door in favor of a few problems at most, with an emphasis on applying math ideas.”
Our Remote Tutoring and mentoring program is already doing this by pairing up mid-career STEM professionals with middle school students to work on the applicaiton of Algebra in the real world over the course of the school year.
