Despite Progress Among All Groups, Large Gaps Emerge Early Among Students and Persist Over Time.
Today “California’s Math Pipeline: Success Begins Early” was released, a brief that points to the critical importance of early success in Math for all of California’s students. The brief was prepared in collaboration with EdSource and released at a meeting today of the First 5 Association of California.
The brief also presents compelling new data that shows while all groups of students have made progress on math achievement, dramatic gaps exist among groups of students as early as second grade, and that these gaps tend to persist over time. “Success Begins Early” also identifies a number of ways to ensure students gain the necessary foundations that will prepare them for academic success in STEM fields in middle school, high school and beyond.
