A new survey from Intel and Change the Equation shows that high school students do not know what it is that engineers actually do. Sixty-three percent of students surveyed have never considered engineering as a possible career path, although once informed that engineers helped to save the Chilean miners in 2010 and that Facebook would not be possible without engineers, more that 50% expressed an interest in engineering as a career. The survey suggests that educators who wish to promote engineering to students should incorporate connections to careers within their work.

That is starting to sound like our RTM program that pairs up students and mid-career STEM professionals for 1:1 mentoring over the school year. Check out our robust results over the past year.
